something is wrong!

By: Janka, Slovakia Posted: 2012-02-15

we have booked 2 nights halfboard from home in advance, when we came to the hotel, nobody knows about us there. first they said that the hotel is full, later 2 rooms were ready for us... food at not very high quality level, no drinks at all included in the pre-ordered meals, what more, no juice at all even not for sale! for dinner, you can not have any fish or sea food. as Cuba is the island full of many kinds of fruits growing everwhere, we were very disappointed with the fruit pieces from can for the breakfast... service is very poor and slowly because there is just one person doing everything from reception to the waiter. hotel was full of people and it took more than half than hour to order and another 45-60 minutes to actually get the food on the table.

beach: very small hotel beach is in the shade of palm trees whole morning, later there is some sun. sand is little bit dirty from the sea plants, noone cares...

rooms are nice but quite dark, just small lamps. hot water only sometimes. environment is amazing view from the balcony brilliant.

i guess, the best times of this hotel are over...

Villa Maguana, one of our favorite provincial hotels in Cuba

By: cubaism Expert, United Kingdom Posted: 2010-04-10

This unique hotel is one of our favorite provincial hotels in Cuba. What was once a fairly simple villa rental on the beach, tucked into a small cove about 20 km west of Baracoa, was recently expanded and upgraded, metamorphosing into an atmospheric lodge on the sands. Backed by thickly forested mountains and edged by mangrove forest, it's a perfect venue for nature lovers to escape the madding crowds. It's also undeniably romantic – a perfect spot to relax on what is virtually your own private beach.

The old bungalow now serves as a simple restaurant, with rockers on the beachfront patio good for enjoying a pre- or post-prandial mojito and cigar. The beach has loungers for sunning, and Gaviota (which runs the hotel) specializes in guided hikes and horseback rides into adjacent Parque Nacional Alejandro Humboldt. If you have snorkel gear, bring it – there's a fantastic reef about 200 meters from shore.

The 16 accommodations are in new, two-story, all-wood, fourplex structures edging right up to the sands (two are further inland). They're air-conditioned, and have spacious oceanfront balconies. You even get satellite TV, phones, plus in-room safes, and dark hardwood furniture, plus bathrooms with modern appliances.
